भरत ने रामचन्द्र से आग्रह किया कि क्षत्रिय का सबसे पहला धर्म सब प्रकार से प्रजा का पालन करना है। इसलिए आप अयोध्या का राज्य स्वीकार करें और प्रजा का पालन करें। भरत की बातें सुनकर रामचन्द्र ने कहा, भाई व्यर्थ हठ मत करो। मैं अपने माता-पिता की आज्ञा का उल्लंघन करना नहीं चाहता। इसलिए तुम अयोध्या लौट जाओ और वहाँ रहकर राज्य करो।
Bharat urged Ramachandra that the foremost duty of a Kshatriya is to protect the subjects in every way. Therefore, accept the kingdom of Ayodhya and rule the people. Hearing Bharat’s words, Ramachandra said, brother, do not insist in vain. I do not wish to violate the command of my parents. Therefore, return to Ayodhya and rule staying there.
अब भरत ने समझ लिया कि किसी भी उपाय से रामचन्द्र अयोध्या नहीं लौटेंगे । इसपर भरत ने रामचन्द्र से प्रार्थना की कि आप अपनी चरण की पादुकाएँ मुझे दीजिए। मैं उन पादुकाओं को सिंहासन पर रखकर आपकी ओर से राज्य संभालूँगा । रामचन्द्र ने अपनी स्वीकृति दे दी । अयोध्या पहुँचकर भरत ने उन पादुकाओं का अभिषेक किया और उन्हें सिंहासन पर रखकर शासन किया।
Now Bharat understood that by no means would Ramachandra return to Ayodhya. Thereupon, Bharat prayed to Ramachandra to give him his sandals (padukas). I will place those sandals on the throne and manage the kingdom on your behalf. Ramachandra gave his consent. Reaching Ayodhya, Bharat consecrated those sandals and ruled by placing them on the throne.
2. प्रश्नों के उत्तर दीजिए :- (Answer the questions)
(1) रामचन्द्र ने अयोध्या लौट आने से क्यों इनकार कर दिया ? (Why did Ramachandra refuse to return to Ayodhya?)
उत्तर : रामचन्द्र ने अपने माता-पिता की आज्ञा का उल्लंघन करना नहीं चाहा । इसलिए अयोध्या लौटने से इनकार कर दिया।
Answer : Ramachandra did not want to violate the command of his parents. Therefore, he refused to return to Ayodhya.
(2) भरत ने किनका अभिषेक किया और उन्हें किसपर रखा ? (Whom did Bharat consecrate and on what did he place them?)
उत्तर : भरत ने रामचन्द्र की पादुकाओं का अभिषेक किया और उन्हें सिंहासन पर रखकर शासन किया।
Answer : Bharat consecrated Ramachandra’s sandals and ruled by placing them on the throne.
