अभ्यास
I. निम्नलिखित प्रश्नों का उत्तर लिखिए :- (Write the answers to the following questions)
1. अमीर क्यों चिंता में पड़ा? (Why was the rich man worried?)
उत्तर : अमीर को उनकी इच्छा के अनुसार कोई नौकर नहीं मिला; इसलिए अमीर चिंता में पड़ा।
Answer : The rich man did not find any servant according to his wish; therefore, the rich man was worried.
2. भगवान ने अमीर को क्या वरदान दिया? (What boon did God give to the rich man?)
उत्तर : अमीर ने ईश्वर से एक अच्छे नौकर की माँग करते हुए प्रार्थना की। जब भगवान उनके सामने आये तो उनसे एक चुस्त एवं फुर्तीला नौकर देने के लिए कहा। ईश्वर ने ‘तथास्तु’ (ऐसा ही होगा) कहकर गायब हो गये।
Answer : The rich man prayed to God asking for a good servant. When God appeared before him, he asked for an active and agile servant. God said ‘Tathastu’ (so be it) and disappeared.
3. भूत ने अमीर से क्या कहा? (What did the ghost say to the rich man?)
उत्तर : भूत ने अमीर से कहा, मैं आपके आदेशों का जल्दी जल्दी पूरा कर दूँगा, मुझे न भोजन चाहिए, न वेतन। लेकिन आपको मुझे लगातार काम देते रहना चाहिए। अगर आप काम नहीं दे सकेंगे तो मैं आपको पकड़कर खा जाऊँगा।
Answer : The ghost told the rich man, “I will fulfill your orders very quickly; I need neither food nor salary. But you must keep giving me work continuously. If you cannot provide work, I will catch and eat you.”
4. अंत में अमीर ने भूत को क्या काम दिया? (What task did the rich man give the ghost in the end?)
उत्तर : अंत में अमीर ने भूत को कुत्ते की पूँछ सीधी करने का काम दिया।
Answer : In the end, the rich man gave the ghost the task of straightening a dog’s tail.
II. “कुत्ते की पूँछ” कहानी का सारांश लिखिए :- (Write the summary of the story “The Dog’s Tail”)
Kutte ki Poonch Kahani ka Saransh
किसी एक देश में एक अमीर आदमी रहता था। उनके यहाँ अनेक नौकर थे; सब नौकर दिल लगाकर काम करते थे। लेकिन अमीर किसी नौकर से संतुष्ट नहीं था। उसने भगवान से एक अच्छे, चुस्त नौकर के लिए प्रार्थना की। भगवान ने एक मोटा ताज़ा भूत को नौकर के रूप में भेजा। भूत ने अमीर से कहा, मैं आपके आदेशों का जल्दी जल्दी पूरा कर दूँगा, मुझे न भोजन चाहिए, न वेतन। लेकिन आपको मुझे लगातार काम देते रहना चाहिए। अगर आप काम नहीं दे सकेंगे तो मैं आपको पकड़कर खा जाऊँगा।
A rich man lived in a certain country. He had many servants; all the servants worked with their hearts. But the rich man was not satisfied with any servant. He prayed to God for a good, active servant. God sent a healthy ghost as a servant. The ghost told the rich man, “I will fulfill your orders quickly; I need neither food nor salary. But you must keep giving me work continuously. If you cannot give work, I will catch and eat you.”
अमीर अपने नये नौकर को काम देना शुरू किया। भूत सभी काम बहुत ही जल्दी पूरा कर देता था। अमीर आदमी को हर दम भूत को काम देने के संबंध में ही सोचते रहना पड़ा। एक दिन उनके पास कोई काम नहीं था; तो भूत अमीर मालिक को खाने के लिए तैयार हो गया। अमीर भूत से डरकर भागने लगा। आखिर अमीर भगवान से प्रार्थना करने लगा; उस समय अमीर की नज़र में एक कुत्ता पड़ गया। कुत्ते को देखते ही अमीर को एक उपाय सूझा। अमीर ने भूत से कुत्ते की पूँछ को सीधा करने के लिए कहा। भूत ने कुत्ते की पूँछ सीधा करने के लिए गया; लेकिन बहुत प्रयास करने पर भी वह कुत्ते की पूँछ को सीधा नहीं कर पाया। आखिर थककर वह भाग गया। फिर अमीर आदमी को अपनी गलती महसूस हुई। वह अपने मेहनती नौकरों के कार्यों से संतुष्ट होकर रहने लगा।
The rich man started giving work to his new servant. The ghost used to complete all the work very quickly. The rich man had to keep thinking about giving work to the ghost all the time. One day there was no work; then the ghost got ready to eat the rich owner. The rich man started running away in fear of the ghost. Finally, the rich man started praying to God; at that time, his eyes fell on a dog. Seeing the dog, the rich man thought of a solution. The rich man asked the ghost to straighten the dog’s tail. The ghost went to straighten the dog’s tail; but despite many efforts, he could not straighten the dog’s tail. Finally, he got tired and ran away. Then the rich man realized his mistake. He began living satisfied with the work of his hardworking servants.
