I. निम्नलिखित प्रश्नों का उत्तर लिखिए :- (Write the answers to the following questions)
1. चतुर आदमी से ज्येष्ठा देवी ने क्या कहा? (What did Jyeshtha Devi say to the clever man?)
उत्तर : ज्येष्ठा देवी ने चतुर आदमी से कहा – “मैं ज्येष्ठा देवी हूँ, और यह मेरी बहन लक्ष्मी देवी है। मैं कहती हूँ कि मैं ही इससे अधिक सुंदर हूँ। लेकिन इसका कहना है कि यही सुंदर है। आपको ही हमारे झगड़े का फैसला करना होगा।”
Answer : Jyeshtha Devi said to the clever man – “I am Jyeshtha Devi, and this is my sister Lakshmi Devi. I say that I am more beautiful than her. But she says that she is the beautiful one. You must decide our dispute.”
2. चतुर आदमी से लक्ष्मीदेवी ने क्या कहा? (What did Lakshmi Devi say to the clever man?)
उत्तर : लक्ष्मी देवी ने कहा, ‘अब बताइये, हममें से कौन अधिक सुंदर है?’
Answer : Lakshmi Devi said, ‘Now tell us, who among us is more beautiful?’
3. चतुर आदमी का उत्तर क्या था? (What was the clever man’s answer?)
उत्तर : चतुर आदमी ने कहा, आप दोनों ही सुंदर हैं। ज्येष्ठा देवी जाते समय अधिक सुंदर हैं और लक्ष्मी देवी आते समय अधिक सुंदर हैं।
Answer : The clever man said, both of you are beautiful. Jyeshtha Devi is more beautiful while going away and Lakshmi Devi is more beautiful while coming in.
4. चतुर आदमी ने अंत में क्या वर माँगा? (What boon did the clever man ask for in the end?)
उत्तर : आदमी ने वर माँगा, “जब तक मैं और मेरे वंश के लोग इस दुनिया में रहेंगे, तब तक लक्ष्मी देवी का कृपा-कटाक्ष सदा मुझपर और मेरे वंश पर होना चाहिए!”
Answer : The man asked for a boon, “As long as I and the people of my lineage remain in this world, Goddess Lakshmi’s graceful glance should always be upon me and my lineage!”
II. “चतुर आदमी” कहानी का सारांश लिखिए :- (Write the summary of the story “The Clever Man”)
Chatur Aadmi Kahani ka Saransh
एक गाँव में एक गरीब आदमी रहता था। वह लकड़ी काटकर अपना जीवन चला रहा था। एक दिन जब वह लकड़ी काट रहा था, तब दो महिलाएँ आईं। दोनों आपस में कुछ बोलते हुए आईं। आदमी के पास आकर, एक महिला ने कहा, मैं ज्येष्ठा देवी हूँ, और यह मेरी बहन लक्ष्मी देवी है। मैं कहती हूँ कि मैं ही इससे अधिक सुंदर हूँ। लेकिन इसका कहना है कि यही सुंदर है। आपको ही हमारे झगड़े का फैसला करना होगा।
A poor man lived in a village. He was leading his life by cutting wood. One day while he was cutting wood, two women came. Both came speaking something to each other. Coming near the man, one woman said, I am Jyeshtha Devi, and this is my sister Lakshmi Devi. I say that I am more beautiful than her. But she says that she is the beautiful one. You alone must decide our dispute.
तुरंत लक्ष्मी देवी ने कहा, ‘अब बताइये, हममें से कौन अधिक सुंदर है?’ आदमी ने कुछ सोचकर कहा, “आप दोनों थोड़ी दूर चलकर वापस आइये। मैं अपना निर्णय सुनाता हूँ।” दोनों महिलाओं ने ऐसा ही किया। आदमी ने कहा, “आप दोनों ही सुंदर हैं। ज्येष्ठा देवी जाते समय अधिक सुंदर हैं और लक्ष्मी देवी आते समय अधिक सुंदर हैं।” यह सुनकर दोनों महिलाएँ खुश हुईं। अब दोनों ने आदमी से अपने लिए कुछ वर माँगने को कहा। आदमी ने वर माँगा, “जब तक मैं और मेरे वंश के लोग इस दुनिया में रहेंगे, तब तक लक्ष्मी देवी का कृपा-कटाक्ष सदा मुझपर और मेरे वंश पर होना चाहिए।”
Immediately Lakshmi Devi said, ‘Now tell us, who among us is more beautiful?’ After thinking for a while, the man said, “Both of you walk a little distance and come back. I will announce my decision.” Both women did so. The man said, “Both of you are beautiful. Jyeshtha Devi is more beautiful while going away and Lakshmi Devi is more beautiful while coming in.” Hearing this, both women were happy. Now both of them asked the man to ask for a boon for himself. The man asked for a boon, “As long as I and the people of my lineage remain in this world, Goddess Lakshmi’s graceful glance should always be upon me and my lineage.”
लक्ष्मी ने कहा, “ऐसा ही होगा। लेकिन आपको और आपके वंश के लोगों को उस धन का सदुपयोग करना चाहिए। दान-धर्म करना चाहिए।” आदमी ने ऐसा ही किया। उनके वंश के लोग भी बहुत धनी और दानी हैं।
Lakshmi said, “It shall be so. But you and the people of your lineage should make good use of that wealth. You should perform charity and righteous deeds.” The man did exactly that. The people of his lineage are also very wealthy and charitable.
