V. निम्नलिखित गद्यांश पढ़कर प्रश्नों का उतर दीजिए:- (Read the following passage and answer the questions)
“बीरबल मुस्कुराते हुए बोला-” जहाँपनाह! आपके बगीचे का दीप दस फुट की दूरी तक अपनी गरमी से सर्दी को दूर कर देता है, पर मेरे घर का चूल्हा पाँच फुट तक अपना ताप बढ़ाकर चावल नहीं पका सकेगा?” अक़बर को बात समझने में देर नहीं लगी कि बीरबल ने क्यों यह नाटक रचा है। उन्होंने तुरंत देहाती को पाँच हज़ार रुपये इनाम में देने का हुकुम दिया और बीरबल की खूब तारीफ़ की । “
Birbal smiled and said: “Your Majesty! The lamp in your garden, from a distance of ten feet, removes the cold with its heat, but the stove in my house, from a distance of five feet, will not be able to increase its warmth enough to cook rice?” Akbar did not take long to understand why Birbal had staged this act. He immediately ordered that the villager be given five thousand rupees as a reward and praised Birbal greatly.

1. बादशाह ने बीरबल से क्या पूछा और बीरबल ने क्या उत्तर दिया ? (What did the emperor ask Birbal and what reply did Birbal give?)
उत्तर : एक दिन बादशाह और बीरबल टहलते-टहलते एक तालाब के पास पहुँचे, बादशाह अपने हाथ-पैर धोने पानी में उतरे तो पानी बहुत ठंडा था। बादशाह ने बीरबल से पूछा कि क्या कोई इस पानी में नहा सकता है? बीरबल ने तुरंत कहा कि पैसा मिलने पर रात-भर इस पानी में खड़ा भी रह सकता है।
Answer : One day, while walking, the emperor and Birbal reached a pond. When the emperor stepped into the water to wash his hands and feet, the water was very cold. The emperor asked Birbal whether anyone could bathe in this water. Birbal immediately said that, if money were given, a person could even stand in this water for the whole night.
2. अक़बर ने बीरबल की क्यों तारीफ़ की ? (Why did Akbar praise Birbal?)
उत्तर : जब अक़बर बीरबल के घर गया तब बीरबल पाँच फुट ऊँचे सीके पर की हाँडी में चावल पका रहा था। अक़बर ने बीरबल से पूछा कि चूल्हे का ताप पाँच फुट दूर की हाँडी को कैसे गरम करेगा और चावल कैसे पकेगा ? बीरबल मुस्कुराते हुए बोला कि जब आपके बगीचे के दीप की गर्मी दस फुट तक की सर्दी को दूर कर सकती है तब यह चूल्हा पाँच फुट तक अपने ताप से चावल नहीं पका सकेगा? बादशाह बीरबल की समयोचित बुद्धि से प्रभावित हुए। बादशाह ने देहाती को बुलाकर पुरस्कार दिया और बीरबल की खूब तारीफ़ की।
Answer : When Akbar went to Birbal’s house, Birbal was cooking rice in a pot placed on an iron rod five feet above the stove. Akbar asked Birbal how the heat of the stove would warm a pot that was five feet away and how the rice would get cooked. Birbal, smiling, said that if the heat of the lamp in the emperor’s garden could drive away the cold up to a distance of ten feet, then surely this stove would also be able to cook rice up to a distance of five feet with its heat. The emperor was impressed by Birbal’s timely intelligence. He called the villager, gave him the reward, and praised Birbal a lot.
VII. “बीरबल की चतुराई” पाठ का सारांश लिखिए । (Write the summary of the lesson “Birbal ki Chaturai”)
एक दिन बादशाह और बीरबल टहलते-टहलते एक तालाब के पास पहुँचे, बादशाह अपने हाथ-पैर धोने पानी में उतरे तो पानी बहुत ठंडा था । बादशाह ने बीरबल से पूछा कि क्या कोई इस पानी में नहा सकता है? बीरबल ने तुरंत कहा कि पैसा मिलने पर रात-भर इस पानी में खड़ा भी रह सकता है। बादशाह ने कहा कि “यह असंभव है और अगर कोई इसे कर दिखाये तो मैं उसे पाँच हज़ार रुपये इनाम में दूँगा।” दूसरे ही दिन बीरबल ने एक हट्टा-कट्टा शरीरवाला लकड़हारे को देखा और उससे सारी बातें समझायीं। लकड़हारे ने बादशाह की शर्त स्वीकार कर लीं। शाम को छः बजे लकड़हारा तालाब में गरदन तक के पानी में खड़ा हो गया। अक़बर ने दूसरे दिन सबेरे तक लकड़हारे को पानी में खड़े रहने के लिए कहकर दो नौकरों को रखवाली के लिए नियुक्त किया।
One day, while walking, the emperor and Birbal reached a pond. When the emperor stepped into the water to wash his hands and feet, the water was very cold. The emperor asked Birbal whether anyone could bathe in this water. Birbal immediately said that, if money were given, a person could even stand in this water for the whole night. The emperor said, “This is impossible, and if anyone manages to do it, I will give him a reward of five thousand rupees.” The very next day, Birbal saw a woodcutter with a strong, sturdy body and explained everything to him. The woodcutter accepted the emperor’s condition. At six o’clock in the evening, the woodcutter stood in the pond with water up to his neck. Akbar ordered that the woodcutter should remain standing in the water till the next morning and appointed two servants to keep watch over him.
दूसरे दिन सबेरे देहाती बादशाह के पास आया। उसे देखकर बादशाह को ताज्जुब हुआ। देहाती ने कहा कि वह तालाब के किनारे दस फुट की दूरी पर के दीप को देखते हुए पानी में खड़ा रहा । अक़बर ने कहा कि उस दीपक की गर्मी के कारण देहाती को सर्दी महसूस नहीं हुई। इस कारण बादशाह ने इनाम देना इनकार कर दिया। देहाती बीरबल के पास गया। बीरबल ने देहाती से कहा कि कल शाम तक तुमको इनाम दिलवा दूँगा। दूसरे दिन बीरबल दरबार में नहीं आया तो अक़बर बीरबल के घर गये। बीरबल चूल्हे से पाँच फुट ऊँचे सीके पर की हाँडी में चावल पका रहा था । अक़बर ने बीरबल से पूछा कि चूल्हे का ताप पाँच फुट दूर की हाँडी को कैसे गरम करेगा और चावल कैसे पकेगा? बीरबल मुस्कुराते हुए बोला कि “जब आपके बगीचे के दीप की गर्मी दस फुट तक की सर्दी को दूर कर सकती है तब यह चूल्हा पाँच फुट तक अपने ताप से चावल नहीं पका सकेगा?” बादशाह बीरबल की समयोचित बुद्धि से प्रभावित हुए । उन्होंने देहाती को बुलाकर पुरस्कार दिया और बीरबल की खूब तारीफ़ की।
The next morning, the villager came to the emperor. Seeing him, the emperor was astonished. The villager said that he had stood in the water while looking at a lamp that was burning on the bank of the pond at a distance of ten feet. Akbar said that it was because of the heat of that lamp that the villager had not felt cold, and for this reason he refused to give the reward. The villager went to Birbal. Birbal told the villager that by the next evening he would definitely get him the reward. The following day, when Birbal did not come to the court, Akbar went to Birbal’s house. Birbal was cooking rice in a pot placed on a spit five feet above the stove. Akbar asked Birbal how the heat of the stove would warm a pot that was five feet away and how the rice would get cooked. Birbal, smiling, said, “When the heat of the lamp in your garden can drive away the cold up to a distance of ten feet, then why will this stove not be able to cook rice up to a distance of five feet with its heat?” The emperor was impressed by Birbal’s timely intelligence. He called the villager, gave him the reward, and praised Birbal greatly.
