Sudarshan is prominent among Hindi story writers.  Sudarshan has an important place in the development of Hindi story-literature.  ‘Har Ki Jeet’ is his first story.

बाबा भारती एक साधु थे । वे सब कुछ त्यागकर गाँव के बाहर एक मंदिर में रहते थे। उनके पास एक सुंदर घोड़ा था। चाल में उसके जोड़ का घोड़ा उस प्रदेश में नहीं था । बाबा भारती घोड़े से बहुत प्यार करते थे । रोज़ शाम को घोड़े पर बैठकर आठ–दस मील घूमते थे । घोड़े को लेकर वे फूले न समाते थे । घोड़े का नाम सुलतान था ।

Baba Bharti was a monk.  He renounced everything and lived in a temple outside the village.  He had a beautiful horse.  The horse of his pair in the move was not in that region.  Baba Bharti loved the horse very much.  Every evening he used to roam around eight to ten miles on a horse.  He could not get over the horse.  The name of the horse was Sultan.

खड्गसिंह वहाँ का एक डाकू था। लोग उसका नाम सुनकर काँपते थे । उसने सुलतान के बारे में सुना । वह एक दिन बाबा भारती के पास आया। उसने घोड़ा देखा, तो उसपर उसे बड़ा मोह हो गया। किसी न किसी तरह सुलतान को हड़पने की ठान ली। जाते–जाते उसने कहा – बाबाजी, इस घोड़े को आपके पास रहने नहीं दूँगा। यह सुनकर बाबा भारती बेचैन हो गये । सदा उनके मन में डर होता रहा कि कहीं खड़गसिंह आकर घोड़े को ले न जाए। यह घटना होकर कुछ समय हो गया। बाबाजी भी इस घटना को भूल गये थे ।

Khadag Singh was a dacoit there.  People were terrified of him .  He heard about the Sultan.  One day he came to Baba Bharti.  When he saw the horse, he fell in love with it.  One way or the other he decided to take the Sultan.  While leaving, he said – Babaji, I will not let this horse stay with you.  Baba Bharti became restless after hearing this.  There was always a fear in his mind that Kharag Singh might come and take the horse away.  It has been some time since this incident happened.  Babaji had also forgotten this incident.

एक दिन हमेशा की तरह बाबाजी शाम के वक्त घोड़े पर सवार होकर चल रहे थे। तब रास्ते में एक अपाहिज ने विनती की कि उसे घोड़े पर चढ़ा लिया जाए। बाबाजी को दया आयी । उन्होंने उसे घोड़े पर बिठाया । वह घोड़े के लगाम पकड़कर चलने लगा। अचानक लगाम हाथ से छूट गया। घोड़ा दौड़ने लगा। वह अपाहिज ठीक से बैठ गया । वह अपाहिज खड्गसिंह था । उसने कहा – ” बाबाजी, अब यह घोड़ा मेरा हो गया ।” कहते–कहते वह चलने लगा ।

One day as usual Babaji was walking on a horse in the evening.  Then on the way a cripple requested that he be taken on a horse.  Babaji felt pity.  He made him sit on the horse.  He started walking holding the reins of the horse.  Suddenly the reins were out of hand.  The horse started running.  The handicapped person sat properly.  He was handicapped Khadag Singh.  He said – “Babaji, now this horse is mine.”  He started walking while saying this.

बाबा भारती एक क्षण के लिए अवाक् रहे, लेकिन तुरंत संभल गये । उन्होंने खड्गसिंह को रोककर कहा कि मानता हूँ कि यह घोड़ा तुम्हारा हो चुका। मैं घोड़ा नहीं माँगूँगा। लेकिन इस घटना के बारे में किसी से कुछ न कहना।

Baba Bharti remained speechless for a moment, but immediately recovered.  He stopped Khadgsingh and said that I agree that this horse is yours.  I will not ask for a horse.  But don’t say anything about this incident to anyone.

खड्गसिंह ने परेशान होकर कारण पूछा। तब बाबा भारती ने कहा कि यह बात किसी को मालूम हो जाए, तो लोग किसी गरीब या अपाहिज पर विश्वास नहीं करेंगे, उन्हें उनपर दया नहीं आएगी।

Khadga Singh got upset and asked the reason.  Then Baba Bharti said that if anyone comes to know about this, then people will not believe any poor or handicapped person, they will not feel pity on them.

यह सुनकर खड्गसिंह की आँखें खुल गयीं। वह बाबा भारती के उच्च विचार के सामने एकदम हार गया। वह उसी दिन घोड़े को अस्तबल में छोड़कर चला गया। सुलतान को पाकर बाबा भारती बेहद खुश हुए और सजल नेत्रों से कहने लगे ‘अब गरीबों की सहायता से कोई मुँह न मोड़ेगा “।

Khadgsingh’s eyes opened after hearing this.  He was completely defeated in front of Baba Bharti’s high thoughts.  He left the horse in the stable the same day.  Baba Bharti was very happy after getting the Sultan and started saying with beautiful eyes, ‘Now no one will turn away from the help of the poor’.
